This is a HAAS VF-4 CNC mill. CNC stands for Computer Numerical Control. With this mill our students can design a part, send it to the mill, put a block of material in the mill, shut the door, press start, and then the mill will use a variety of cutters called end-mills to cut out the part. This is sometimes called subtractive manufacturing. It is the opposite of 3D printing, which some call addititive manufacturing... This machine arrives at our shop on October 18th!!!
